1957: Clovis was preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a parade and visits from Gov. Edwin Mechem and Santa Fe Railway President E. S. Marsh.

Mechem was scheduled to crown the city's 50th Anniversary Queen Suzanne King.

Thousands of people were expected for "one of the largest and most colorful parades ever witnessed in Clovis," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

1957: Clovis police reported three calls for service.

The most serious, according to the CN-J, was a break-in at the junior high cafeteria.

Police said they found nothing missing except some matches.

Loyd Pace, who lived at 308 Calhoun, reported he'd found a black cocker spaniel puppy.

Mrs. Joe Stanley reported someone shot out a window of her home at 217 W. Manana with a BB gun.
