1982: New Mexico's state board of polygraphy had scheduled its June meeting in Clovis.

The agenda included establishment of a code of ethics and creed of conduct for polygraphers.

The meetings were to be held at the Clovis Police Department.

Clovis News-Journal Managing Editor Bill Southard described polygraphy as "lie detection."

1982: A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized after a fire broke out in his Clovis garage at 617 W. 20th.

Firefighters said the boy was welding in his garage and received second-degree burns over 8 percent of his right leg.

The building received "moderate" fire damage, firefighters said.

The victim was taken to Clovis High Plains Hospital by his brother. He was listed in good condition.
