Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

About 2,200 lose power in storm

CLOVIS — About 2,200 Xcel Energy customers in north Clovis were without power for more than an hour on Thursday night.

Xcel spokesman Troy Foos said a circuit breaker was thrown during stormy weather.

“The serviceman was sent out and actually found a faulty lightning arrester, which keeps the integrity of our system intact during storms (typically a lightning strike, of course),” Foos said in a text message.

“Essentially, the breaker kept the line out of service until the arrester was fixed.”

While Clovis received only traces of rain from the storm, some area communities fared better.

Farwell received almost a half inch of rain, while Bovina received three-quarters of an inch.

The forecast calls for increased chances of rain today through early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
