One critical after Wednesday incident

CLOVIS — A Clovis man was in critical condition after he was apparently hit with a car Wednesday night following an altercation.

Paul Apodaca Sr., 42, was transported to a hospital in Lubbock after police found him on the ground and bleeding from his head on the front lawn of a residence on the 3100 block of Gidding Street, police said.

A police news release said a caller notified police of the incident just before 8 p.m., claiming to also see two other people arguing on the front lawn.

According to the news release:

In addition to Apodaca, Isaac Sena, 20, and a juvenile were treated at Plains Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

A witness told police he saw four people arguing that evening at a parking lot near Llano Estacado and Wallace streets. The witness said he saw three men exit a silver-colored Nissan Altima and start “battering” a fourth, who had been driving unaccompanied in a silver-colored Ford Fusion.

The witness said he honked his car horn and watched both parties drive away. The witness said he followed both cars to the site of the incident (at the corner of Gidding Street and East Tierra Blanca Road) and found Apodaca and another person “underneath the Ford Fusion.”

Several officer vehicles were on scene for over two hours following the first report, including the CPD Crash Team and Special Operations Unit, which is investigating the incident as an aggravated battery.

Police said on Thursday afternoon no criminal charges had been filed in connection with the incident.
