1972: Screwworm cases were becoming "rampant" in the Texas Panhandle, but officials said there were no cases of the cattle disease reported in Curry or Roosevelt counties.

Four new cases had been confirmed in Swisher and Oldham counties in Texas in the past week.

The nearest New Mexico infestation was reported in Tatum.

Screwworms are maggots that feed on living flesh. Left untreated, they can kill their victims.

1972: Wade's Sporting Goods and Ladies Sportswear was hosting its semi-annual clearance sale in Clovis.

One rack of men's shorts, hats and swimsuits was 40 percent off.

One group of women's blouses, shorts, skirts, T-shirts and turtle tees were 40 percent off.

Wade's was at 120 Main in Clovis.
