1967: Groundbreaking ceremonies had been scheduled for the weekend at the site of the new Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clovis.

The church would be located at Tierra Blanca and Thornton streets.

The project was expected to cost $68,325 and was scheduled to be complete by November.

The land was donated by the congregation at Clovis' First Presbyterian Church.

Westminster Presbyterian was organized in January 1965 with 51 charter members. They had been meeting in the Chapel of Memories Mortuary chapel.

1967: The number of marriage licenses issued in Curry County was up almost 9 percent from a year earlier.

The county clerk issued 320 marriage licenses the first six months of 1967; only 297 were issued the first six months of 1966, the Clovis News-Journal reported.

"Both years fell short of the first six months of 1965 when 344 licenses were issued," the newspaper reported.
