1977: Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey was the first player to receive more than 4 million votes from fans, leading the list of National League players selected for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Johnny Bench, Ron Cey, Joe Morgan and Dave Parker were among others selected to the NL team, which would be managed by Cincinnati's Sparky Anderson.
American League all-stars in 1977 would include George Brett, Rod Carew, Carlton Fisk and Reggie Jackson.
