CLOVIS — Roosevelt County reached the finals of the state Intermediate Little League (ages 11-13) state baseball tournament at Mike Harris Field, but lost twice to Albuquerque-based East Mountain in the double-elimination event.
After beating Ruidoso 21-0 on Friday in the opening round of the four-team, double-elimination event, RC outlasted East Mountain 24-22 in Saturday’s marathon winners bracket final.
East Mountain, though, came back with a 14-4 win on Sunday to force a second championship game, and then won again on Monday 9-4 to advance to national regional competition this weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Clovis Zia is involved in three LL double-elimination sectional tournaments are on tap this weekend, with the winners advancing to state.
At Carlsbad, Zia faces the District 5 winner at 8 p.m. on Friday in the 8-10 division, and takes on the District 9 champion at 6 p.m. Friday in the 9-11 division. At Albuquerque, Zia also plays the District 9 winner in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
In LL softball, Roosevelt County plays Gallup-based Zine Nation at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in a 10-12 sectional tournament at Albuquerque, and Clovis American meets the District 7 representative at 5:30 p.m. in the state 13-14 bracket, also at Albuquerque.
