CLOVIS — The Lodger's Tax Advisory Board recommended $67,342 Tuesday from $114,842 in funds requested by various community entities for promoting tourism dollars in the city.
The board came in well under its limit of $100,000 in cash awards for the quarterly distribution of lodging tax revenue. Board recommendations are subject to final approval from the city commission.
The board made the following recommendations:
• American Legion Riders Chapter II: $8,000 for Clovis' part in the Aug. 27 "Annual Ride for Bully Awareness," and other anti-bullying campaign materials throughout the year.
• Clovis Community College: $7,500 to advertise the 17th season of the college's "Cultural Arts Series"
• CBT Productions: $2,500 to promote a barrel-race "double dash" event Sept. 2 and 3.
• Clovis Zoo: $2,500 to make brochures and other advertisements.
• City of Clovis: $3,360, most of which will fund the creation of a jingle to promote the city, and the remaining $360 to make repairs to a billboard at 8th and Main streets.
• Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce: $10,303 for print promotion and its community profile publication.
• Westbrook Baptist Church: $5,000 towards its 11th annual ladies' retreat Oct. 6-7 at the Civic Center.
• Clovis Desert Cruzers Car Club: $7,500 for its 21st annual car show.
• Clovis MainStreet: $7,500 for a community food event and Christmas parade.
• Ned Houk Motorsports Complex: $10,000 for facility repairs and improvements.
• Curry County Events Center: $4,000 towards expenses for a Sept. 8 concert by the Randy Rogers Band, with 300 tickets already pre-sold.
