CLOVIS — School administrators in Clovis are seeking public help in identifying three individuals alleged to have damaged $5,000 of property, including two expensive air conditioner/heater units, at a preschool over the weekend.
The trio were caught on a surveillance camera appearing to also kick in the door of a shed and tear up a fence gate at Los Niños preschool between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday, said Deputy Superintendent of Operations Carrie Bunce.
"This is becoming a nearly everyday occurrence of people — typically kids — trying to break into our buildings, or simply just trying to cause damage," Bunce said, "We've never had a summer this bad."
School administrators did not discover the damage until Monday morning, when they reported the incident to Clovis police.
Bunce said additional security footage places the three suspects at nearby Barry Elementary School at North Thornton Street and East Llano Estacado Boulevard after vandalizing the preschool. No property damage was identified at Barry.
"It's taxpayers' money," Bunce said. "They're the ones ultimately paying for this."
