1962: Local motorists were warned to be cautious because of expected heavy traffic in Clovis for the upcoming Labor Day weekend thanks to the scheduling of two local roping events.

State Police Capt. Floyd Miles advised motorists to drive with their lights on to help out.

Clovis Jaycees were doing their part to "keep accidents to a minimum" by manning a coffee stop just east of town to dispense "free coffee to weary motorists," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

1947: The Society page in the Clovis News-Journal had a photo of some swimsuit-clad "Clovis beauties" out enjoying "a sunbath and a cooling splash" in the Hillcrest swimming pool.

The "popular young lovelies" who posed for the photo included La Von Thomas, Jackie Kennard, Eva Clair Barnes, Betty Jo Smith, Betty Snell and Ned McCleskey.
