Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
PORTALES — Public Works Director John DeSha at tonight’s Portales City Council meeting is scheduled to review the Aug. 26 water line break that left most of Portales without running water for over 12 hours.
The meeting is set to start at 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Building.
The report will cover the opportunities water breaks provide the city to better deal with similar situations in the future, according to DeSha.
“It just goes back to what we’ve talked about before: What it takes to handle these kinds of breaks, the things the guys need for training,” he said, “the opportunity for training to make sure we understand our equipment, to be able to better understand how that main ties in with the city.”
Other items DeSha will be discussing include the correction of a resolution for participation in the Local Government Road Fund program, an update on the state of Kilgore Avenue, and a request for city sewer services by a county resident.
Also on today’s agenda:
• The Roosevelt County Fair Board will recognize the Portales Water Department for its work during the Aug. 26 water line break.
• A resolution adopting the Portales Senior Citizens Center’s infrastructure capital improvement plan for fiscal years 2019 through 2023 will be up for approval.
• Councilors will review Portales Area Transit’s 2019 application for rural transit funding.
