Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
CLOVIS — It was business as usual for the Clovis Community College Board of Trustees at their monthly meeting Wednesday morning, although recent telephoned threats of violence to the college did come up during CCC President Becky Rowley’s presentation on Strategic Action Plans.
Chairman Arnold Martinez asked about CCC’s communication infrastructure for making safety alerts, and Rowley said the college has a “panic button” that automatically contacts police, in addition to an intercom system for voicing updates campus wide.
The college also utilized Rave Alert — a campus emergency notification system — Tuesday afternoon after a bomb threat was called in, resulting in classes being canceled and the buildings being evacuated after 1 p.m. Rowley said faculty, staff, and “lots of students” receive the Rave Alerts.
Also at Wednesday’s meeting:
• Approval of academic calendars for fall 2018 through summer 2019; the 16-week terms will run Aug. 20 - Dec. 7 in the fall and Jan. 14 - May 10 in the spring. The eight-week summer term runs June 3 to July 26.
• Appointment of Regina Dart, a CCC fine art major, as student representative to the college’s art committee.
