PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds football team returns home this Saturday night to host UT-Permian Basin for the annual Greyhound homecoming football game. The game will kick off at 7 p.m., with the 1957 Greyhound football team being honored at halftime.
The 1957 Greyhound squad completed a perfect season that year, going 9-0-1. Led by coach Carl Richardson — a 1987 ENMU Athletics Hall of honors inductee, Eastern’s only tie came against Southwestern Oklahoma (14-14) on Nov. 9.
The Hounds outscored their opponents 245-103, including shutouts over New Mexico Western and Los Angeles State.
Tarleton kickoff moved to 1 p.m.— The football team’s Oct. 14 game at Tarleton State has been moved up five hours, according to a release from the school.
The game, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT, has been moved to 1 p.m. MDT out of concerns with Tarleton State hosting a basketball event later that night.
Both teams are 4-1 overall on the season. The Greyhounds, who face UT Permian Basin Saturday, are 3-1 in Lone Star Confernece play. The Texans bring a 3-1 record into Western New Mexico Saturday.
Baseball camp set — ENMU will hold a baseball prospect camp Nov. 5, according to a release from the school.
Students from grades 9-12 are invited to the event at Greyhound Baseball Field.
The camp will use Major League Baseball’s format, with a 60-yard dash, catcher’s pop times, hitting practice, infield and outfield drills and a game.
A university tour is offered after the camp concludes, and players will receive feedback from Greyhound coaches and players.
