Clovis cross country teams place third, fourth in Odessa

ODESSA, Texas — The Clovis High cross country teams traveled to Odessa on Thursday, with the boys finishing third and the girls fourth in races that each featured more than 100 competitors.

Clovis took home fifth with a score of 151 points and having Kelsey McNaughton finishing within the top 10 at fourth place (19:30).

Lubbock Cooper took first in the girls competition with a score of 40 points. San Angelo Central took home second with 70 points and Odessa High took third with 94.

The Wildcats also got a 30th-place finish from Amanda Castro (21:56), 41st-place finish from Avery Arnett (22:36), 42nd-place finish from Faith Hays (22:38) and a 44th-place finish from Sydney Stratton (22:44).

Hobbs, who finished seventh with 166 points,was led by overall winner Misty Madrid (18:39).

For the boys, Tascosa’s Wes McPhail took first with a time of 15:30 on the day.

For Clovis’ boys, John Fuentes and Jose Salas finishing in the top 10 in the 130-runner meet. Fuentes finished in third (16:15) and Salas finished in fifth (16:19).

Other runners included Bryce Lentz coming in 19th (17:01), Jerrick Maldonado in 23rd (17:12), Dominic Moreno taking 41st (17:51) and P.J Gregg coing in 57th (18:12).

Clovis rival Hobbs took home first with a total of 40 points, Permian took second with 80 and Clovis was third with 90 points.

Individual champion (108 runners): Misty Madrid, Hobbs, 18:39.
