PORTALES — Last week, the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team registered a pair of exceptional performances. Junior goalkeeper Alejandra Camarillo was a key to those performances as the Greyhounds earned back-to-back ties against Lone Star Conference powerhouses West Texas A&M and Midwestern State. For her performance, she was chosen as the LSC Defensive Player of the Week.
The honor marked the first time this season Eastern received a weekly award from the conference office. The last ENMU player to receive weekly LSC laurels was Mirka Zamarripa with Offensive Player of the Week, last September 21. The last time a player from Eastern grabbed Defensive Player of the Week was September 18, 2013, when Alyxandra Ortiz was chosen.
With shutouts over West Texas A&M and Midwestern State last week, Alejandra Camarillo has not allowed a goal at home in over 300 minutes. She made five saves against WT and four against MSU in a pair of double-overtime scoreless ties. At home this season, the junior goalkeeper has a goals-against average of 1.18.
Camarillo and the Eastern New Mexico University women's soccer team will host Angelo State on Friday at 7 p.m. The home finale against UT Permian Basin is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
