PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University Volleyball team suffered its first loss at home of the season as it was swept by Lone Star Conference rival and 15th-ranked Tarleton State Friday night at Greyhound Arena.
The loss puts the Greyhounds at 7-12 overall and 4-5 in Lone Star Conference play.
On the offensive end, Brooklyn Biel was able to lead the Hounds with six kills and Jasmine Gannon and Natasha McClendon followed behind with five a piece. The Greyhounds had a total of seven kills in the first set as Tarleton State (16-4, 8-1 LSC) dominated with a total of 12 kills, four coming from Hailey Roberts who finished with a match-high 17.
The Hounds came out in the third set hanging on as they took a short 4-3 lead early, but it spiraled quickly due to attack errors. In total, the Hounds had 24 miscues in the hitting game.
TSU dominated the stats with 40 kills to 21 for the Greyhounds, and also led in aces (6-2), blocks (7-6), assists (38-19), and digs (40-33).
"We really should have played better," said ENMU coach Sia Poyer. "We knew they were a good team, but everything is the same with us. We don't have any secrets that will improve our gameplay, we just have to go into practice and work on what we always do. We had missed opportunities; we knew they came to play, but we should have played better defense than what we played."
It doesn't get much easier. The Greyhounds are at home again tonight at 6, this time against 17th-ranked Angelo State.
