PORTALES — Tonight’s Portales City Council meeting will see an ordinance authorizing a loan of $1 million from the New Mexico Finance Authority to fund the construction of a fire substation.
City Manager Sammy Standefer said loans of this type don’t require the borrowers to pay for 20 years, but terms are still to be negotiated.
He added that he hopes construction on the substation — located near Lindsey-Steiner Elementary School on the north side of the city — can begin in early 2018.
“I expect the construction to take approximately a year,” he said.
Also at today’s 6:30 p.m. meeting:
• The ratification of bills for September will be up for approval.
• Public Works Director John DeSha will give a report on the city’s lease with the New Mexico State Land Office for the Blackwater well fields.
• Standefer will present an overview of a strategic planning session that focuses on general fund revenue enhancements.
• The renewal of a non-exclusive use agreement with the Portales Bowhunters Club will be up for approval.
