1977: Twenty-three members of the Gattis Junior High marching band were probably still stiff and sore after having been treated and released from local hospitals the day before following an accident involving two school buses and a car.

The students were returning from a band event in Canyon, Texas, when two of the four buses collided with each other and a car waiting to make a left-hand turn near the state line in Texico. Injured students were taken to Clovis Memorial Hospital and the Cannon Air Force Base Hospital for treatment.

One bus driver was hospitalized in good condition; the other was treated and released.

1952: The Homemakers Club of Eastern New Mexico University welcomed new members with a candlelight ceremony on campus.

Local initiates into the organization included Sue Barnett and Beal O'Neal of Clovis, Mozelle Cox and Joy Morgan of Floyd, Lois Dunsworth and Jessie Swinford of Portales, Wanda Gardner of Causey, Zandra Tower of Bellview, Marjorie Parker of House, Dixie Campbell of Rosedale, and Koleta Smith of Texico.
