Clovis students take choir honors

Thirty students from Clovis High and the CHS Freshman Academy were selected for the 2018 New Mexico Music Educators Association All-State Choir, according to a news release from Clovis Municipal Schools.

Students auditioned on Oct. 13 at Eastern New Mexico University and those selected qualify to attend the All-State Music Conference and Concert at the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, scheduled Jan. 10-13.

CHS Freshman Academy students Dara Brammer, Kyree Kennard and Mililani Woznick were selected for the treble choir and Kiara Cox, Marcos Lopez, Jacob Martin and Joshua Martin were selected for the mixed choir.

CHS students Lauren Martin, Lilly Medrano, Alejandra Lopez, Dariana Romero, Adara Walker, Layla Walley, Jadan Anderson, Cielo Rodriguez, Heather Starbuck, Tony Betts, James Woloszyn, Jordan Arguello and Efren Bocanegra III were selected for the treble choir.

CHS students Alexis Arguello, Adriana Lopez, Maggie Land, Ashley Maldonado, Colby Coiner, Jonathan Palmer, Angel Sena, Glen Southard, Ryan Marez and Christian Fox were selected for the mixed choir.

FFA team earns silver

Members of the Clovis Future Farmers of America, competing in the National FFA Parliamentary Procedure Contest and Convention, earned a silver rating and top 20 ranking in the country, according to a press release from Clovis Municipal Schools.

Jack Palla, Tanner Duncan, Anthony Sharer, Aaron Reid, Casity Flowers, Hailey Perkins, Marie Albin, Catherine Hisel and Deanne Guthrie competed in the event in Indianapolis from Oct. 23 through Sunday.

Sharer scored high enough to be certified as an accredited parliamentarian, the release said.
