CLOVIS — The Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education will discuss the results of the district’s involvement with the University of Virginia Partnership for Leaders in Education program at its regular meeting tonight.
The school turnaround program was established in 2003 and provides assessments of school systems across the country.
Superintendent Jody Balch said members of the program came to Clovis to interview CMS employees and analyze the school district and will produce a report detailing the strengths and weaknesses of the district.
Balch said three schools will be selected to follow the model suggested by the report next year. He does not know yet which schools will be picked, but said the Clovis High Freshman Academy may be one of them.
Balch said because of the district’s recent participation in the New Mexico Public Education Department’s Principals Pursuing Excellence program, PED will pay for the majority of the program’s costs, with CMS picking up the tab for about 33 percent.
Other items on the agenda for the 5:30 p.m. meeting at the administration building at 1009 Main St. include:
• Parkview Elementary Principal Wayne Marshall will present an update on the school to the board.
• The CHS marching band will be recognized for its recent strong performances at competitions.
• The board is expected to take action on an amended service contract with Adair Inc. for the 2017-18 school year. According to the contract CMS will pay Adair a little over $2 million for bus rental, insurance and inspections for the school year.
