1982: Employees of Southwestern Public Service were preparing for an open house for their recently completed coal-fired power plant, Tolk Station Unit No. 1, near Muleshoe.
The 561,000-kilowatt plant was the largest ever built by SPS, and was expected to provide electricity for 225,000 people.
The two-day open house included tours of the facility, which was designed to burn 296 tons of low-sulfur coal per hour when operating at maximum capacity.
1957: The Curry County Tuberculosis Chapter was set to kick off its Christmas seals sale, an annual holiday fundraiser to assist patients battling TB in the area.
George Murphy was chair of the project, while Dr. Martin Goodwin was president of the local TB chapter.
The two of the them — along with publicity chairman, Mrs. Norman Bloom — were photographed by the Clovis News-Journal as they affixed signs to postal trucks to help encourage locals to "Buy and Use Christmas Seals" to "Fight TB."
