EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Eastern New Mexico University junior Omer Almog crossed the finish line at the 32:44.4 mark Saturday at the NCAA Division II championship meet, putting him 95th in the race at Angel Mounds.
There were 249 runners in all at the meet. Almog’s finish on the 10K was a 10th of a second behind Indiana’s Sean Heaton.
Adams State swept the team championships, with the men holding off Grand Valley State 44-64 and the women topping University of Mary 126-137.
Adams State had all five of their scoring men’s runners in the top 17, including three in the top 10. Tiffin’s James Ngandu, running individually, took the title at 30:18.8.
In the women’s competition, University of Mary had five runners finish in the top 55, but nobody higher than 13th place. Adams State, meanwhile, had two of the top 12 runners on the day for the win. Alaska-Anchorage’s Caroline Kurgat won the 6K women’s meet in 20:32.3, more than 20 seconds ahead of Walsh’s Sarah Berger.
Almog's appearance at the NCAA Championship meet was the second straight for a Greyhound, as Mercy Rotich competed for the women's team at last year's women’s championship. The men's team's last representative was Mikey Davila in 2013.
