1982: It was a white Thanksgiving for most of eastern New Mexico as snow that started the day before was building up across the region.

New Mexico State Police said holiday travelers would be facing some roads that were snow-packed and icy in the first winter storm of the season.

Mike Wilson, a senior at Clovis High School, wrote “I love you” in the freshly fallen snowflakes on his girlfriend’s car, a message that disappeared under more snow within the half hour.

1962: Several members of the Portales Business and Professional Women’s Club were guests at the Clovis BPW meeting in an event held at the Clovis Elks Club.

Clovis BPW President Grace Swain welcomed Frances Christoe, Geneva Clements, Eunice Drinkard, Laura Fullerton, Estell Johnston, and Rusha Smith. Christoe was editor of “The Turquoise,” the state BPW publication.

The program, according to the Clovis News-Journal, was done by several guests who presented “a mock bullfight and an imitation of a hillbilly band.”
