MELROSE — The Melrose boys basketball team is off and running, opening Thursday with a 71-31 win over Clovis Christian in the Melrose Invitational.
Jared Lee paced the Buffaloes with 17 points. Sterling Sena tossed in 11 for the Buffs.
Melrose had a late start to its season preparation, but it was a nice problem for the school to have, resulting from the football team’s run to a fourth straight eight-man championship, wrapped up last Saturday at Mountainair.
“We had two days of practice,” Melrose boys basketball head coach Kevin Lackey said. “We just got into the gym. Considering that, I thought we did well.”
Jalen Hyman and Isaac Lindo topped Clovis Christian (1-2) with nine points each.
