Man sentenced to 45 years on sex crime charges

AMARILLO — A man arrested four years ago in Roosevelt County was sentenced last week to 45 years in prison on the sex crime charges for which he was extradited back to Texas.

David Blake Turner, 46, was arrested Aug. 7, 2013, in Roosevelt County on a fugitive warrant from Randall County, Texas, where he was charged with sex abuse of a child, continuous, of a victim under the age of 14, a first-degree felony.

A jury last week found him guilty on two counts of the same charge following a trial of five days, said Randall County First Assistant District Attorney Robert Love. He was sentenced to 45 years in Texas prison for each, with the sentences to run concurrently.

The charges pertained to a period in 2013 from June 1 to Aug. 1 in Randall County, records show. He was arrested less than a week later in eastern New Mexico.

Love said Tuesday he was not clear on Turner’s place of residence but that it came out during testimony that he had lived in Portales.

Turner’s attorneys did not respond Tuesday to calls for comment.
