Leslie Delaney and Arlene Guillen, both 18-year-old freshmen, were selected to serve as ambassadors at numerous SPC events.

Delaney, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene P. Echols, and Guillen, the daughter of Nancy Guillen, were chosen for the honor based on scholarship as well as awareness of college and community events, poise, personality, appearance, and ability to relate to people.

1957: The New Mexico Highway Department released a report saying New Mexicans were driving 3 mph faster than they did in 1955, and 6 mph faster than they did in 1950.

The report, based on speed studies made from 1948 to 1957, said the average speed on New Mexico highways was 52 mph in 1950, 55 mph in 1955, and 58 mph in 1957.

At the time of the 1957 study, a 70 mph speed limit was in effect for most New Mexico roads.
