Suspect sought in assault at dairy

Sheriff Malin Parker called it a “fairly stupid crime.”

Officials on Wednesday were still searching for a man who assaulted one dairy worker and pointed a handgun at another in the early hours of Christmas Eve.

The motivation was apparently robbery, Parker said, though nothing was taken.

“It’s a fairly stupid crime, because most guys that go into a milk barn to work the night shift are not gonna be carrying large amounts of money or anything of any value, because they get so dirty while they’re working,” Parker said.

The incident occurred between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Sunday. The sheriff declined to provide the name or location of the dairy.

Parker said a “single male individual brandishing a handgun” entered the milking barn, battering one worker with the gun before leaving with another male believed to be linked to the crime, Parker said.

“When he realized he was going to get nothing of value, both individuals fled the area,” he said.

The dairy worker who was hit was treated for “fairly significant injuries, but nothing life-threatening,” Parker said.
