Thompson layup finishes furious rally for Hounds

ENMU claims 70-67 win

LAWTON, Okla. — Marquis Thompson scored 13 points, including a go-ahead finger roll with eight seconds left, and Eastern New Mexico put together a furious rally in the final 40 seconds to defeat Cameron 70-67 Thursday night.

Arcaim Lallemand created trouble all night for the host Aggies (5-11, 1-6) with game highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Greyhounds, who looked dead in the water when Johan Tate hit a 3-pointer for a 70-67 lead.

But the Greyhounds (7-8, 2-4) answered back, with freshman Devin Pullum hitting a free throw and Lallemand hitting a pair with 22 seconds left to knot it up.

It looked like Cameron, which struggled from the field, might steal a game from the Hounds that featured six ties and eight lead changes. Tate’s 3-poiner was his only basket of the game and just the second trey hit in 21 attempts on the night.

The Aggies, however, could do nothing to preserve the lead from there with 0-of-4 shooting from the line and a pair of misses in the final eight seconds — a Tyus Momoh floater that fell short, and a desperation 3-pointer with 0.9 left after Thompson hit a pair of free throws.

After JV Long missed a pair of 3-pointers with :21 to play, Lallemand rebounded and the Greyhounds called timeout to set up their final play.

Elish Benjamin scored 16 points to lead the Aggies.

Maurice Coleman scored 11 points for the Greyhounds, who head to Midwestern State for a 3 p.m. MST Saturday tipoff.
