1988: Sixth-graders at Sandia Elementary School in Clovis were putting finishing touches on a play called "The Sound of Great Voices," that they were presenting in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s upcoming birthday.

The play, which had many parts written by students, was presented in the Sandia multipurpose room.

Students in "The Sound of Great Voices" included Kelly Cook, Jeremy Garcia, Katrina Cash, Stacey Lemmons, Brandi Link, Chris McCampbell, and Wesley Warthen.

1973: The G.A. Gunn family of De Baca County was announced as the New Mexico Farm Family of the Year by the Farmers Home Administration, an award they were scheduled to receive at the end of the month.

Gunn grew up in Roosevelt County, and his wife, Naomi, grew up in De Baca County. The two were Farm Bureau directors, and he was a past president of the bureau.

They started farming in De Baca County in 1959 with a dozen heifers, $11,000, and a few acres of rented farmland.
