1983: Students from Clovis, Texico, Portales, Floyd and Elida had competed in district competition for the Future Homemakers of America, in a day-long event hosted by Yucca Junior High.
In the job application and interview competition, Shay Abernathy of Yucca won the junior division, and Melissa Okeson of Floyd High School won the senior division.
The junior division life situations competition was won by a team from Yucca comprised of Gina McKillip, Winnie Gafford and Michelle Vervelline. The senior division of that contest was won by Elida High School students Michelle Milner, Ginny Coombes, Cherry Anthony, and Amparo Barron.
1973: House schools were open again after missing two days when the school had no electricity due to a fierce winter storm that downed power and phone lines.
The House students had also missed two days at the beginning of January thanks to heavy snow, so students had already been alerted that they would be attending school for the next four Saturdays to recover the lost lesson time.
Betty Moon of House reported that most electricity and telephones had been restored in the district, but said the roads - especially dirt roads - were in bad condition because of mud.
"Some say the roads are the worst in history," she told the Clovis News-Journal.
