ENMU tops in LSC for 4.0 student-athletes

PORTALES — Perfect seasons on the field are pretty rare for teams in the Lone Star Conference. But perfect seasons for athletes off the field aren't unheard of, and Eastern New Mexico University led the way in the fall.

A total of 48 Greyhound athletes scored a 4.0 GPA, the most of any school on the commissioner's honor roll of 1,213 student-athletes released Wednesday by the conference.

Texas A&M-Commerce had the most overall student-athletes with 160, followed by West Texas A&M and 158 and 140 each by ENMU and Texas Permian Basin.

Overall, 330 students earned a 4.0 for the fall. After ENMU's 48, Commerce had 44, West Texas A&M 40 and Angelo State 38. Softball had the most 4.0 students, with 48 to top football (42), volleyball (32), women's soccer (31) and women's track and field (29).

For placement on the commissioner's honor roll, a student-athlete must be on a roster and have a mimimum GPA of 3.0 in the preceding semester.
