1983: New Mexico skiers were experiencing great conditions at ski areas all around the state.

Taos had a 97-inch base, with 10 inches of fresh snow from the past 24 hours; Santa Fe had a 65-inch base of powder and packed powder, with 6 inches of new snow; Cloudcroft had a 28-inch base with 3 inches of freshly fallen snow.

Eastern New Mexico’s closest slope — Sierra Blanca — had excellent conditions with 57 inches on the midway. Snow was falling at report time and already added 7 inches of new flakes to the total.

1978: Southwestern Public Service of Clovis won a “good housekeeping” award from the New Mexico Water Supply and Pollution Control Association for having the best water system in the state for 1977.

It was the seventh time in the past 13 years for Clovis to win the award.

The award was based on the condition of the 33 underground wells and pump stations in the Clovis water system, owned and operated by SPS. Clyde Barnes was general foreman for the local department, which had 13 employees.
