CLOVIS — Curry County Detention Center Administrator Mark Gallegos may receive a raise at today's regular meeting of the Curry County Board of County Commissioners.
A request to increase Gallegos' salary to $90,000 per year is included on the consent agenda for today's meeting, reserved for routine items that are not expected to cause any disagreements among the commission.
Gallegos was hired on Jan. 11, 2016, at a salary of $80,000 per year and currently earns $83,636 per year.
In a memo to the commission, Curry County Manager Lance Pyle praised Gallegos for the administrator's work in securing a Certificate of Accreditation by the Adult Detention Professional Standards Council of the New Mexico Association of Counties for the Curry County Adult Detention Center in November.
"What Mr. Gallegos has accomplished is what no other administrator has been able to accomplish at our facility," Pyle said in the memo. "There will always be issues at the Detention Center, and Curry County must have the right people to manage and address those issues. We have that with Administrator Gallegos."
Also on the agenda for today's meeting, scheduled for 9 a.m. in the commission chambers at the Curry County Administrative Complex, 417 Gidding St.:
• The commission will vote on a resolution that will continue a four-day work week program for the county road department. The commission previously approved a temporary switch to a four-day work week for the road department in November and today's resolution would make the change permanent, Pyle said.
Prior to the trial period road department employees already had a four-day week work, either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.
If the resolution is approved, road department employees will continue to work Monday through Thursday, with the department being closed on Fridays.
• The commission will review and vote on 2018 county committee and board assignments. Pyle said any vacancies left by former Commissioner Ben Smith will need to be filled, either by Smith's replacement, Commissioner Seth Martin, or another commissioner.
• Pyle will discuss with the commission several bills that the county has been following during the 2018 legislative session.
Pyle said he will provide commissioners with an update on the bills and the commission will then take a stance in support or opposition of the bills, which Pyle will relay to legislators.
• The commission will vote on a resolution supporting the city of Clovis master water assurance plan. Commissioner Robert Thornton said the resolution is largely a symbolic gesture to show support for the plan, and any financial costs associated with supporting the plan would need to be approved by the commission at a later date.
• The commission will vote on an application with EPCOR Water for fire lines to provide water for the sprinkler system as a part of the Adult Detention Center renovation and addition in the amount of $31,909.
• The commission will vote on a contract with Milk Members, Inc. for the construction of a deceleration lane on Curry Road 4.
The deceleration lane will provide access to a milk shuttle yard to be built across the street from Southwest Cheese.
Pyle previously said the contract provides no cost to the county.
• The commission will vote on a resolution to authorize the county to submit an application for the DWI loan and grant program for fiscal year 2019.
• The commission will vote on whether or not to accept a late report from Melrose Senior Center for the second quarter of fiscal year 2018 and make a payment in the amount of $585.75.
