Late rally not enough to save Hounds

SILVER CITY — Eastern New Mexico University's men's basketball team closed Tuesday's Lone Star Conference matchup with an 11-4 run over the final 2:28.

The problem was the hole the Greyhounds had dug in the first 35 minutes. They couldn't quite escape it, and Western New Mexico held on 84-80 for its first Lone Star Conference victory of the season.

Jordan Enriquez notched a game-high 25 for the Mustangs (4-19, 1-13), who improved to 27-20 against the Greyhounds at home and snapped ENMU's four-game streak in the series.

Lamarquis Thompson scored 18 points to lead four Greyhounds (10-13, 5-9) in double figures, while Arcaim Lallemand scored five of his 11 points in the game-ending run.

Jamani Pierce scored 14 points, while Marcus Coleman had 12.

The Greyhounds are off until Feb. 15, when they host Midwestern State.
