1983: With what a Clovis News-Journal sports writer called "one of the best lady teams in the state," the Portales Ramette basketball team had defeated the Clovis Lady Wildcats 46-30 in Portales.

Portales' Robbie Robinson ("who should be an all-state pick," according to sports writer Jeff Martin) led her team with 11 points and nine rebounds. Ann Timmons and Janet Baker each added nine for the Ramettes, and Julia Schmuck had eight.

The Lady Wildcats' shots "went over, around, under, and outside the basket, but not in the little oval that makes two points flash on the scoreboard," Martin wrote.

1958: Eastern New Mexico University's children's theater production of "Cinderella" was slated for 14 performances across the state over a two-week period.

The show, under the direction of R. Lyle Hagan, was set to open for a three-day run at the University Theater in Portales, and then hit the road for one performance in Tatum, three in Lovington, one each in Eunice and Jal, two in Artesia, one in Clovis, and two in Santa Fe.

Local students in the traveling cast included Linda Sanders and Don Sharp of Portales, Mary Maddox of Clovis, Clyde Dunning of Broadview, and Carolyn Cantrell of Farwell.
