PORTALES — Friday afternoon was supposed to mark the home-opener of the 2018 Eastern New Mexico softball season, but Mother Nature had other plans. A double-header against Lone Star Conference rival Western New Mexico was originally supposed to take play at 5 and 7 p.m., before being moved up to 3 and 5 p.m., due to the chance of inclement weather.
Ultimately, Friday’s games were canceled, as the area experienced its first heavy rain in months, while temperatures sat around 40 degrees and under throughout the daytime. The three-game set, which initially had the rubber match scheduled for this afternoon, will now be pushed back by a day.
Greyhounds (5-5) head coach Katie Welborn announced that her squad will now play the Mustangs (1-9) at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, and will complete the series Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
