Building inspection solution to be proposed

PORTALES — A possible solution to the city of Portales’ inability to perform building inspections will be proposed to the Portales City Council tonight.

A memorandum of understanding with the city of Clovis may allow Portales to utilize its neighbor’s building inspectors, according to Portales City Manager Sammy Standefer.

The MOU was prompted by House Bill 219, which requires cities to hire four separate inspectors, each one certified in the individual areas of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and general inspections.

If approved, the MOU would still require approval from the city of Clovis and the state, Standefer said.

Also at tonight’s meeting at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Building:

• The city of Portales’ 2017 water conservation and use report by water consultant Charles Wilson.

• A resolution allowing the mayor to apply for up to $25,000 in hardship funds to participate in the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s annual hardship sale for surplus vehicles.

• An application for a $326,478 grant from the New Mexico Department of Transportation for assistance in fuel farm construction at the Portales Municipal Airport.

• A request for the annual renewal of a non-exclusive use agreement for recreational facilities by the Roosevelt County Little League and the Portales Softball Association and Adult Soccer League.
