Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Eastern New Mexico at Angelo State
Women, 4:30 p.m.
On the air: Cow Country 1450 AM
Records: ENMU 16-9, 12-6. Angelo State 19-5, 14-4.
Last time out: The Greyhounds topped Cameron 65-57 for their third-straight victory and seventh in eight games. Angelo State is coming of a 71-62 loss to West Texas A&M.
Last meeting: Jan. 20, 62-59 Angelo State.
Notes: This could get interesting. West Texas A&M and Angelo State are tied at 14-4 for first in the Lone Star Conference standings, and split their two regular season games. Texas A&M-Commerce is one game ahead of ENMU at 13-5 for third place, and those two teams also split their regular season games. The Greyhounds split with WT and play Angelo tonight, while the Lions split with Angelo and play WT tonight. The LSC decides tournament seeds by a) overall LSC record, b) head-to-head records among tied teams, c) records against conference opponents in descending order of finish and d) coin flip if all other tiebreakers are exhausted. Tiebreaker C could get complicated if the top four teams all go 1-1 against each other, and even more complicated in the event of a three- or four-way tie.
Men, 6:30 p.m.
On the air: Cow Country 1450 AM
Records: ENMU 10-15, 5-11. Angelo State 17-9, 8-8.
Last time out: The Greyhounds fell to Cameron 60-58 in their home finale, and have lost three straight. The Rams have also lost three straight, most recently a 120-88 drubbing from West Texas A&M.
Last meeting: Jan. 20, 92-89 ENMU.
Notes: The top eight teams after Saturday will advance to the LSC tournament, and Eastern is holding onto the final spot. Unless 2-14 Western New Mexico upsets Texas A&M-Kingsville tonight, this game isn't going to matter much to the Greyhounds - who can't finish higher than eighth, and need a win in Kingsville Saturday to do so. The Greyhounds can catch Midwestern State (7-11) in the standings, but the Mustangs own the head-to-head tiebreaker. A combination of an ENMU win and a Kingsville loss - whether it comes Thursday or Saturday - would clinch a Greyhound playoff berth. If Kingsville runs the table, it's the No. 8 seed. The Rams can't fall below their current No. 6 spot, and have a decent shot at finishing fifth. They'd have to beat ENMU and Western New Mexico at home, then hope Texas A&M-Commerce loses to the LSC's top two teams - Thursday at West Texas A&M and Saturday at Texas Permian Basin.
