ENMU women’s hoops ranked ninth in region

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico’s women’s basketball team was ranked ninth in the NCAA’s South Central Regional poll, according to a release Wednesday from the school.

The Greyhounds, 16-9 overall, are one of four Lone Star Conference teams in the poll. They are joined by West Texas A&M at No. 2, Angelo State at No. 4 and Tarleton State at No. 10.

The teams are likely to move a little bit in next week’s poll, with ENMU playing Angelo State Thursday and Tarleton State hosting West Texas A&M Saturday.

Lee to discuss Hound offense at March clinic

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University football coach Kelley Lee has received an invite to speak at the Dallas Flexbone Clinic March 9.

Lee, who went 8-2 in his first season as head coach, will discuss his team’s ground strike offensive scheme. The Greyhounds led NCAA Division II teams in rushing yards and time of possession, with running back Kamal Cass receiving back-to-back All-American honors.

The session will be 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Texas time at the Prince of Peace Christian School in Carrolton.

Greyhound men’s track team reaches 22 in poll

PORTALES — The Greyhound men’s indoor track and field team, which broke into the top 25 for the first time in program history earlier this month, set a new school ranking mark Tuesday, according to a Wednesday release from the school.

Eastern New Mexico is ranked 22nd in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Two weeks prior, the Greyhounds broke into the poll at No. 24.

The Greyhounds will return to Lubbock Saturday for the Lone Star Conference championships, hosted by Texas Tech University.
