ENMU basketball capsules, Feb. 24

Eastern New Mexico at Texas A&M-Kingsville

Women, 3 p.m. MST

On the air: KSEL 105.9 FM

Records: Eastern New Mexico 16-10, 12-7. Texas A&M-Kingsville 7-20, 4-15.

Last time out: The Greyhounds fell at Angelo State, 59-56, to snap a three-game losing streak. The Javelinas ended a seven-game losing streak with an 80-40 win over Western New Mexico.

Last meeting: Jan. 18, the Greyhounds needed overtime to hold off the Javelinas 67-61. The Javelinas topped Western New Mexico 70-42.

Notes: Eastern and Tarleton State (both 12-7) could either finish third, fourth or fifth while Texas A&M-Commerce (13-6) will finish third or fourth. The Greyhounds can only finish third with a win, a Tarleton State win and a Texas A&M-Commerce loss; in this scenario, they'd face No. 6 Midwestern State. Eight playoff scenarios exist for ENMU, depending on it, Commerce and Tarleton winning or losing Saturday. Six of the scenarios put ENMU in the 4-5 game against Tarleton State. The other two would be ENMU finishing third (listed above), or ENMU playing the 4-5 game against Commerce (Tarleton State wins, ENMU and Commerce lose). The Javelinas, who last year upset No. 1 ENMU as the No. 8 seed in the Lone Star Conference tournament, can only cost the Greyhounds a shot at the third seed. They're in 10th place, a game and a half behind Texas Woman's.

Men, 5 p.m. MST

On the air: Cow Country 1450 AM

Records: Eastern New Mexico 10-16, 5-12. Texas A&M-Kingsville 12-15, 5-12.

Last time out: The Greyhounds fell in overtime at Angelo State, 86-83, to extend their losing skid to four games. The Javelinas ended a seven-game losing streak with an 80-40 win over Western New Mexico.

Last meeting: Jan. 18, Texas A&M-Kingsville 65-62, OT.

Notes: The stakes are pretty simple, as the winner is the eighth and final seed for next week's LSC tournament and the loser is cleaning out the locker room on Monday. Should the Greyhounds fall on the road, they'll no doubt look at the Jan. 19 game that got away. In their visit to Portales, the Javelinas were on a seven-game losing streak and managed just three points in the game's first eight minutes. The winner will draw either West Texas A&M or UT Permian Basin as the top seed in the tournament. The Buffs and Falcons, inexplicably, both suffered defeats Thursday to remain tied at 14-3 in the LSC. Due to standings tiebreakers, Permian Basin will get the No. 1 seed with either a win at Texas A&M-Commerce or a WT loss against Tarleton State.
