Eastern New Mexico’s track and field team headed into Saturday’s Lone Star Conference Championships looking for positive individual results, as the Greyhounds don’t quite possess enough depth to compete for a team championship, according to coach Jeff Kavalunas.
Fortunately, the results from Day 1 of the event were more than encouraging, heading into today’s final day of competition. The men’s team qualified for seven events today, while Kenneth Lloyd (7-0.5) won the High Jump Final on Saturday.
Men’s Heptathlon athlete Colby Bagwell finished in the top nine in all four of his events, including the 60 Meter Dash, Long Jump, High Jump and Shot Put, as he’ll resume the final rounds of the Men’s Heptathlon today.
Other than Bagwell, Marcus Parker qualified for the 60 Meter Final by winning the First Round with a time of 6.78 seconds, while placing fourth in the 200 Meter qualifier with a time of 21.51.
Ivar Moinat, meanwhile, placed second in the 800 Meter First round, with a time of 1:54.05. The men’s team is currently ranked sixth (out of seven teams) with 15 points after the first day.
The women’s team, meanwhile, is tied for seventh with Midwestern State, but nonetheless, had an equally impressive individual outing like the men’s squad.
Danee Bustos and Kandace Miles both qualified second and third, respectively, in both the 200 and 400 Meter Dash First round.
Mason Swanson, meanwhile, qualified in second for the 800 Meters with a time of 2:20.24. As for the 60 Meter Dash, Lateria Slaughter qualified in seventh with a time of 7.76 seconds.
As for women’s events that finished on Saturday, Coley Norcross recorded a 5000 Meter time of 19:17.51, good enough for seventh place. Adilene Adams finished 10th in the weight throw with a throw of 47-5.25.
