1978: Construction was proceeding for a new bridge on New Mexico Highway 18 north of Clovis at Running Water Draw.

Contractor J.W. Jones of Albuquerque was building the 48-foot wide bridge to replace a much narrower bridge of "ancient vintage," according to the Clovis News-Journal.

The project began in December, and motorists were using a paved detour during the anticipated six months of construction time.

The new bridge featured two 12-foot lanes, with 12-foot shoulders on each side.

1978: The New Mexico State Fair Commission announced its tentative lineup for performers for the 1978 State Fair rodeo concerts.

Chairman Nino Trujillo said contracts had been signed with Jose Feliciano, Charley Pride, Anacani (of the Lawrence Welk Show), the Oak Ridge Boys, Donna Fargo, Ronnie Milsap, and Kenny Rogers.
