Four Greyhounds receive All-LSC recognition

FRISCO, Texas — Four Eastern New Mexico University basketball players were honored with various Lone Star Conference team selections on Wednesday night, the eve of the conference tournaments.

Seniors Mikaehla Connor, Daeshi McCants and Lamarquis Thompson were honored along with junior Zach Parker, according to releases from the school and the conference.

Connor received a second-team All-LSC honor and merited selection on the All-LSC Academic Team for the second-straight season. McCants was a third-team selection, while Thompson and Parker were both honorable mentions on the men's teams.

Connor and McCants have helped the Greyhounds win 36 games over the last two seasons and post back-to-back winning campaigns for the first time since 2000. Last season saw ENMU qualify for its first Division II national tournament in school history.

Connor led the Greyhounds with 10.3 points per game, while McCants averaged 10 points and 7.3 rebounds per game with eight double-doubles.

Parker averaged 11.6 points per game to lead the Greyhounds and was 10th in the LSC with 49 3-pointers made on the season. Thompson averaged 11.1 points per game, and was usually the go-to option in late-game situations.

Thompson was highlighted by the NCAA for a game-winning 3-pointer against Fort Lewis in November; he posted 23 points and 13 rebounds in the 73-72 win over the then-No. 16 Skyhawks.

The Greyhound women will take on Tarleton State at 5 p.m. today, while the ENMU men face top-seeded West Texas A&M in a 7:30 p.m. Friday quarterfinal.

Both the women's and men's tournament championship games will be streamed on ESPN3 and available through the ESPN App. The women's title game tips off at noon, with the men's championship to follow at 2:30 p.m.

All games will be played at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco.
