No. 16 Reserve at No. 1 Elida, 3 p.m.
Records: Reserve 7-16, Elida 21-7.
Entering Friday: Reserve lost two straight games, both to Animas — 39-24 to end the regular season and 44-16 in the District 2-1A tournament. Elida is coming off a 36-32 loss to Melrose in the District 4-1A tournament to snap a four-game winning streak.
Previous meeting: 2013 Class B quarterfinals, 53-29 Elida.
The winner moves on to: An 11:30 a.m. Wednesday quarterfinal at Bernalillo High School against either Cimarron or Hondo Valley.
No. 14 Floyd at No. 3 Quemado, 5 p.m.
Records: Floyd 5-18, Quemado 19-6.
Entering Friday: Floyd fell to Elida 62-15 in the Class 4-1A tournament semifinals. The Eagles have won three straight and eight of their last nine, most recently defeating Animas 33-26 for the Class 2-1A district championship.
Previous meetings: 2016 Class 1A first round, Quemado 47-39. The Eagles were the fifth seed, hosting the No. 12 Broncos that season.
The winner moves on to: A 3 p.m. Wednesday quarterfinal at Bernalillo High School against either Roy or Animas.
No. 10 Springer at No. 7 Grady, 6 p.m.
Records: Springer 12-17, Grady 16-11.
Entering Friday: The Red Devils fell 54-52 to Des Moines in the opener of the District 5-1A title game. The Bronchos fell 50-37 to Melrose in the District 4-1A semifinals.
Previous meeting: Dec. 29, Grady won 56-55 at Springer.
The winner moves on to: A 6:30 p.m. Wednesday quarterfinal against either Melrose or Walatowa Charter.
No. 15 Walatowa Charter at No. 2 Melrose, 6 p.m.
Records: Walatowa 4-11, Melrose 20-7.
Entering Friday: The Cougars fell to Coronado 73-28 in the District 1-1A championship. Melrose is coming off a 36-32 win over Elida in the District 4-1A title game, avenging their two district losses to the Tigers. Melrose has otherwise only lost to Class 2A opponents Dora (twice), Fort Sumner, Lordsburg and Eunice.
Previous meeting: 2017 Class 1A quarterfinals, Melrose 71-46.
The winner moves on to: A 6:30 p.m. Wednesday quarterfinal against either Grady or Springer.
No. 13 Clovis Christian at No. 4 Des Moines, 7 p.m.
Records: Clovis Christian 6-19, Des Moines 19-8.
Entering Friday: The Eagles fell to Floyd 56-42 to open the District 4-1A tournament. Des Moines defeated Springer 54-52 to claim the District 5-1A tournament.
Previous meetings: None in the last five seasons.
The winner moves on to: An 8 a.m. Wednesday quarterfinal against either Coronado or Vaughn.
Class 2A
No. 9 Dora at No. 8 Tatum, 6 p.m.
Records: Dora 17-11, Tatum 15-10.
Entering Friday: Dora lost in the District 5-2A semifinals, 57-40 at Fort Sumner. Dora went 2-4 in district, with wins over Mountainair and losses to top seed Logan and fourth seed Fort Sumner. Tatum won the District 4-2A title with a 43-34 win over Hagerman. The Coyotes have won three straight, and eight of their last night. During the nine-game run, they’ve achieved the contrasting feats of beating Class 1A No. 1 Elida 31-30 on the road and losing at home to Class 1A No. 2 Melrose 48-27.
Previous meeting: Jan. 9. In a game that was also at Tatum, the host Coyotes won 38-37 in overtime.
The winner moves on to: A 3 p.m. Tuesday quarterfinal at Bernalillo High School, against either top-seeded Logan or No. 16 Navajo Pine.
Class 3A
No. 16 Santa Rosa at No. 1 Texico, 6 p.m.
Records: Santa Rosa 7-18, Texico 22-4.
Entering Friday: The Lions fell to Tucumcari 77-40 in the District 5-3A tournament opener. The Wolverines fell to Clayton 51-48 in the District 5-3A title game. The loss snapped a 16-game winning streak.
Previous meetings: Texico swept the Lions in District 5-3A play, winning 56-25 at home and 59-30 on the road. Texico also topped Santa Rosa in its own Citizens Bank Tournament, 63-21, on Dec. 29.
The winner moves on to: An 11:30 a.m. Tuesday quarterfinal at the Santa Ana Star Center against either Pecos or Tierra Encantada.
