Reporter's notebook: Missing names

While genre films like “Get Out” and “The Shape of Water” went home with Oscars at the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday, horror and science fiction greats that died in 2017 were missing from the award show’s “in memoriam” segment.

Deadline reported that of 51 names memorialized, notable omissions included “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” director Tobe Hooper, “Batman” actor Adam West, and “Robocop” co-star Miguel Ferrer.

While stars like Jerry Lewis, Don Rickles, and Harry Dean Stanton got mentions, country music and film star Glen Campbell, who died from Alzheimer’s disease in August, was also excluded, according to Rolling Stone.

Rolling Stone writer Stephen L. Betts added in the article that Campbell’s omission was especially surprising due to the fact that he was an Oscar nominee in 2015 for an original song in the documentary “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me,” a film Betts called “an unflinching look at his career-closing Goodbye Tour in the wake of his Alzheimer’s diagnosis.”
