Previous meeting: The District 4-4A rivals have met three times already this season, and today’s matchup will make it eight times in two seasons. The Huskies have won all three matchups this season — 76-41 Jan. 30 in Albuquerque, 58-56 Feb. 17 at Portales and 77-59 in the 4-4A championship at Hope.
Winner moves on to: An 8 a.m. Friday semifinal against either Silver or Shiprock at The Pit.
Class 3A
No. 1 Texico vs. No. 8 Dexter
Time and place: 8 a.m. today at Santa Ana Star Center, Rio Rancho
Records: Texico 27-0, Pecos 24-4.
How they got here: Texico cruised by No. 16 Santa Rosa 66-28 for their 17th win in 18 games. Pecos won its fourth straight, topping Tierra Encantada 64-32.
Previous meeting: Feb. 16, 2016, Texico 58-46.
Winner moves on to: A 4:45 p.m. Thursday semifinal against Santa Rosa or Newcomb, also at the Star Center.
Class 1A
No. 2 Melrose vs. No. 9 Grady
Time and place: 1:15 p.m., Bernalillo High School.
Records: Melrose 26-13, Grady 17-12.
How they got here: Melrose took care of Santa Fe Waldorf 90-22, while Grady upset No. 8 Vaughn 54-43.
Previous meeting: The District 4-1A opponents have already met three times this season, with Melrose winning all three, 72-44 Jan. 25 at home, 81-36 at Grady Feb. 6 and 80-48 in the 4-1A championship.
Winner moves on to: A 3 p.m. Thursday semifinal against either Evangel Christian or Quemado, also at Bernalillo H.S.
No. 7 Floyd vs. No. 2 Maxwell
Time and place: 4:45 p.m, Bernalillo High School.
Records: Floyd 14-10, Maxwell 26-1.
How they got here: The Broncos knocked out Cimarron 55-44. Defending 1A champ Maxwell was a 76-50 winner over Walatowa Charter and has won 17 straight entering today’s game.
Previous meeting: 2017 Class 1A quarterfinals, Maxwell 62-37.
Notable: The Bears have gone 54-4 over the last two seasons.
