CLOVIS — The deadline for Clovis Municipal Schools students to apply for the state Bilingual Seal is on Friday.
Bilingual Multicultural Education Coordinator Santi Gutierrez said the district has more than 70 seniors who have qualified for the seal, up from 26 last year.
Gutierrez said previously Clovis handed out a district bilingual seal before adopting the New Mexico State Seal of Bilingualism and Biliteracy when it was established for the 2015-16 school year.
Students must meet two of the following three requirements to qualify for the bilingual seal:
• four units of credit in the same language
• pass an exam or other national assessment
• pass a written and verbal presentation
Bilingual seal recipients will earn a certificate, their diplomas will be embossed with the seal and they will receive a stole to wear at graduation.
The application can be found on the CMS website at http://www.clovis-schools.org/federal_programs/Bilingual.html.
