Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
PORTALES — The Portales City Council will be doing some reorganizing in its first meeting since the municipal election.
After hearing the official results of the uncontested election, newly elected Mayor Ron Jackson will conduct elections for positions on the council.
“Every time there’s a new mayor, the mayor has a right to appoint the committees. That’s basically what’s going to happen. He’ll reappoint some committees. They’ll also probably vote for mayor pro-tem,” City Manager Sammy Standefer said.
Also at today’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Building:
• The council will recognize Wastewater Plant Operator Randall Poe for achieving a level 3 water certification.
Standefer said Poe earned the certification through a series of tests that took a year to two years each to complete.
The certification allows Poe to operate the city’s water system if Public Works Director John DeSha, the city’s primary water system operator, cannot.
• Jackson will read a proclamation recognizing Wednesday as Small Business Development Day.
• Finance Director Marilyn Rapp will present the city’s bills for 2018 for approval, as well as budget adjustments for the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
• The council will consider approving the renewal of a loan agreement with the National Museum of the Air Force for the city’s F-11 jet display.
