Counties designated disaster areas

Curry, Quay and Roosevelt counties have been designated as primary natural disaster areas by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) due to losses and damages stemming from the recent drought, according to a press release from the USDA.

Qualified farm operators in the designated areas have eight months from March 15 to apply for the Farm Service Agency’s emergency loans to cover part of their actual losses caused by the drought.

Interested farmers are advised to contact their local USDA Service Center for more information about eligibility requirements and the application process for the emergency loans and other programs available to provide financial assistance to eligible farmers.

The Clovis Service Center is located at 918 Parkland Drive and can be reached at 575-762-4769. The Portales Service Center is located at 50 N.M. 467 and can be reached at 575-356-6629. The Tucumcari Service Center is located at 706 S. First St. and can be reached at 575-461-3612.
